Welcome to our home here in Wisconsin—where our Labrador Retrievers are raised as part of our everyday life, not apart from it.
Every space on our property has been thoughtfully designed with our dogs’ health, safety, and overall well-being in mind. From open areas to play and explore, to clean, separately climate-controlled indoor spaces, we’ve created an environment that supports happy, confident, and well-socialized puppies from the very beginning.
When we built our home in 2022, we were incredibly intentional about incorporating a dedicated space just for the dogs—what we lovingly call our Dog Room. This space is connected directly to our home through the mudroom, allowing for easy access while keeping everything organized and functional.
Where Puppies Begin
Each litter begins their journey right inside our home.
From birth through approximately three weeks of age, puppies are whelped and raised in our office just off our living room. This allows for constant supervision, close monitoring of mom and puppies, and early exposure to the natural rhythm of daily life—voices, movement, and the gentle sounds of a family home.
During these early days, I often sleep in the office on our Murphy bed for the first week or two to ensure both mom and puppies are doing well.
As the puppies grow and need more space, they transition into the Dog Room, where they continue to learn and develop until they go home with their families.

The Dog Room
Our setup includes:
- A private exterior entrance for easy outdoor access
- A dedicated dog laundry room with wash station, and a dedicated stackable washer and dryer – because during busy seasons, we’re often running four or more loads of puppy laundry each day
- Cabinetry and counter space for food storage and preparation
- A large storage area for supplies
One of my favorite features is that this space shares a wall with our master bathroom, allowing us to easily hear and stay in tune with the puppies and dogs at all times.
This is also where our adult dogs rest and spend their downtime when they aren’t integrated into the main living areas of our home.
One of the things we love most is that our dogs are never confined to a single way of resting—they have the freedom to where they’re most comfortable – whether it’s one of the couches, a dog bed, a crate if needed, or simply stretch out on the floor. Their comfort always comes first.
This space allows us to keep up with the constant needs of raising puppies—including constant laundry — while keeping both our home and dog areas clean and well managed.
We’ve also developed a flexible setup that allows us to comfortably raise multiple litters at a time, with a system for setting up and rotating puppy pens as needed.
Puppy Development Spaces
As puppies grow, their environment evolves with them. Each stage is intentionally designed to support development, confidence, and early learning.
Newborn to ~3 weeks
Puppies are kept in a whelping box where they remain safe, warm, and close to mom.

3–5 weeks
Puppies transition into larger pens with the introduction of litter box training and early exploration.

5–8 weeks
Puppies move into expanded play areas with more space, enrichment, and social interaction.

Outdoor Puppy Play Yard
In the summer of 2024, we added one of our favorite features to date – a custom outdoor puppy play yard—built by my husband and father —which has become an invaluable part of our program.
Designed with both safety and ease in mind, this space is directly connected to our Dog Room Door and includes secure fencing and strategically placed gates, allowing us to transition puppies outside smoothly and safely.
The yard features:
- K9 turf and pavers for durability and easy cleaning
- Enrichment & structured play elements including slides, tunnels, and a ball pit
- A splash pool for water introduction on warm days
- Plenty of space for movement, play, and exploration to build confidence
This environment allows puppies to experience new sights, textures, and activities while building confidence and coordination – helping them grow into well-rounded, adaptable companions.

Why It Matters
We believe the environment puppies are raised in plays a significant role in who they become.
By raising our puppies in a clean, structured, and enriching home environment, we’re able to provide a strong foundation that supports confidence, adaptability, and a smooth transition into their future homes – and into the lives of the families who welcome them.
