Layla & Knox had several successful dates and she was bred in mid February. We will be confirming her pregnancy via ultrasound the mid part of March (appx 30 days gestation) and puppies will be due in mid to late April with a tentative go home date in end of June 2026. The final Go Home dates will be determined once puppies are born.
This pairing has the potential to produce Charcoal, Silver, Champagne and a portion of the litter could have some tan point or brindle markings (charcoal and silver colored puppies only)
Tan Points in Labs:
Even though these adorable puppies don’t have the solid coloring typically seen in purebred Labradors, the Tan Point Lab is indeed purebred. These parents have undergone genetic testing, and we can provide proof of this if requested.
To simplify matters, the Tan Point markings are a recessive trait that can only manifest when a puppy inherits two copies of the tan point gene. This is similar to a litter producing dilute colors (silver, charcoal, and champagne) – those puppies also inherit two copies of the dilute gene.
While some people perceive tan point and dilute markings as defects, I believe they are beautiful and unique! The majority of the families I place my puppies with seek loving companions and occasional recreational hunters. However, these markings are considered a defect by the AKC and would disqualify the dogs from participating in dog shows. Most breeders don’t breed to express tan point colors and markings, often avoiding them due to the backlash from the AKC and other breed clubs. Nevertheless, I believe they are beautiful and unique, so I sought out dogs that could eventually produce litters with them to share with families and raise awareness about their stunning colors and markings. Many service dog and therapy dog programs are searching for puppies and dogs with brindle and tan point markings to help bring awareness, and it’s an icebreaker when it comes to talking about their uniqueness.
They are purebred Labs, and when registering with the AKC, they are simply registered as their base color (black/charcoal or chocolate/silver). However, this litter will have potential to exhibit varying intensities of markings, ranging from light brindling to strong solid tan points.
